Building and forming habits...

I have always claimed that I am a very consistent, organized and on the downside, very predictable person. My excellent organization skills are very useful in my day to day lifestyle as a mom, wife and a corporate employee.

I am an excellent multi tasker and I am able to finish my tasks. The key to multi tasking is staying focused and keeping a mental or visual list of the priority tasks that must be executed.

With this mindset, I am able to develop habits, a way of life that is useful to my active and on the go lifestyle.

I transmit the same approach to my 7 year old son. It is crucial to help him build habits that will help him organize his activities (school work, extra curricular activities, playtime, personal tasks), be more independent when managing his time and stay focused.

The same thing goes with his toys. I always tell my son that we live in a small but beautiful house (one of the downsides of living in the city center - we have everything accessible, best access to the comforts of city living, but we have limited space) so this means that his toys stay in his room, we play from time to time in our living room, but our living room is not an extension of our bedrooms.. So toys must be kept in our compartments, books in our shelves, etc.

In forming study habits, the same organization skills apply. My son already knows that his responsibility to school work comes first - so seatworks, homeworks must be done first prior to putting together his train railways or his lego. And homework’s must be done in his study table in his bedroom. And when playtime is finished, we put back his toys in the proper storage.

It takes a lot of patience, consistency and flexibility... I sometimes forego these “rules” because at the end of the day, my son’s happiness and development is on top of everything. Nothing beats the roaring laughter of my son filling up the four corners of our home sweet home 😘🤩👪😙☺️
